LXC Sports and Social Club

ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS ALLOWED.

Drinks must either be in cups, plastic bottles, or koozies.

Equipment and Field of Play

  • LXC will provide the nets and balls.
  • Teams must bring their own paddles.
  • The field of play is rectangular, measuring 44 feet long by 20 feet wide, divided into 2 halves by a center dividing net.
  • Each half has a line that is 7 feet away and parallel with the net. This indicates a no-volley zone, also known as “The Kitchen.”

Teams/Substitutions

  • Each team consists of 2 players.
  • Mixed: No gender restrictions.
  • Men’s: Two male players required.
  • Women’s: Two female players required.

Game Duration

  • Matches consist of 3 games for the official score.
  • All three games must be played, and the total games won out of 3 will be recorded.
  • If a team decides to quit after 2 games, the opponent will receive an automatic win for the 3rd game.
  • If additional time remains in the hour, teams are encouraged to keep playing for fun until time runs out.
  • Games will be played to 11 points, win by 2, with a cap at 13.

Start of Play

  • Team captains will play rock, paper, scissors. The winner can choose to serve first or select the side of the court they prefer.

Serving

  • The ball is served underhand and diagonally to the opponent’s service court.
  • Player A serves → If Team AB wins the point, Player A switches positions with Player B and serves. This continues until Player A faults. After Player A faults, Player B serves. After Player B faults, the serve goes to the other team.
  • The serve CAN bounce before making contact with the server’s paddle.
  • Serves must cross the non-volley line on the opponent’s side.
  • If the serve lands in the non-volley zone or on the non-volley line, it is considered a fault, and the other team gets the ball.
  • Serves must be made underhand and below the waist.
  • The server must be positioned behind the baseline and in their quadrant of the court.
  • Only one serve attempt is allowed.
  • Let serves are considered IN play.

The Double-Bounce Rule

  • When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning. This creates two bounces.
  • After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either hit the ball before it bounces or play it off a bounce.
  • Any ball that lands on the line is considered in.

Scoring

  • A point is scored if the returning team fails to return the ball or if the returning team commits a fault.

Faults

A fault is any action that stops play due to a rule violation. Faults include:

  • The ball is hit into the net on the serve or any return.
  • The ball is volleyed before a bounce has occurred on each side.
  • The ball is hit out of bounds.
  • A ball is volleyed from the non-volley zone.
  • A ball bounces twice before being struck by the receiver.
  • A player, player’s clothing, or any part of a player’s paddle touches the net or the net post while the ball is in play.
  • There is a violation of a service rule.
  • A ball in play strikes a player or anything the player is wearing or carrying.
  • A ball in play strikes any permanent object before bouncing on the court.

Non-Volley Zone (aka "The Kitchen")

  • The non-volley zone is the court area within 7 feet on both sides of the net.
  • Volleying is prohibited within the non-volley zone. This rule prevents players from executing smashes from a position within the zone.
  • It is a fault if, when volleying a ball, the player steps on the non-volley zone (including the line) or if the player’s momentum causes them or anything they are wearing or carrying to touch the non-volley zone or its lines.
  • It is also a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone, even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before this happens.
  • A player may legally be in the non-volley zone any time other than when volleying a ball.

Cancellations/Rainouts/Snowouts

  • Makeup weeks are built into the end of each season unless otherwise specified.
  • All players will be notified via text/email if games are canceled.
  • Team captains will be notified via text message if there is less than an hour’s notice for canceled games (including forfeits if we know about them ahead of time).
  • If more than one cancellation occurs, LXC will try to find another week if possible, but this is not guaranteed.
  • If inclement weather or other factors limit the scheduled game duration and more than half of the game has been played, the game shall count as the full game.

Forfeits

  • Teams have until 10 minutes past the designated start time to field the minimum requirement.
  • A forfeit will be scored 5-0.
  • LXC officials will make every effort to complete a forfeited game with a mixed set of remaining players.
  • If your team is going to forfeit, PLEASE call or text our office at 502-384-7529 or email havefun@lxcsports.com.

Forfeit Penalties

  • First Forfeit: Loss of game and warning issued.
  • Second Forfeit: Loss of game and LXC reserves the right to remove the team from playoffs.
  • Third Forfeit: Loss of game and removal from the league with no refund.

Please notify us early if you have to forfeit. Early notice gives us a chance to find a replacement team for your opponent to play.

League Schedule

  • All teams are scheduled for a minimum of 6 matches.
  • The top teams will make the single-elimination tournament on the 7th week.
  • The number of teams that qualify will vary depending on the number of teams in your league and available court space.

Standings

  • Standings are sorted by winning percentage first.
  • If the winning percentage is tied, standings are then sorted by head-to-head match-up wins.
  • If 3 or more teams are tied, the next tie-breaker is average games won per match.
  • If head-to-head records are still tied, standings will be sorted by average games won per match.
  • If after games won there is still a tie, the standings will be calculated by registration date—the earliest team to register for that season will be ranked higher.

End of Season Tournament

  • Rosters will be checked at the beginning of games, and teams cannot have subs unless approved by LXC.
  • Tournament Format:
    • A single-elimination tournament will be played on week 7, on the same day of the week that the league is scheduled.
    • The top teams qualify for the tournament.
    • The number of teams will vary depending on the total number of teams in the league and available court space.
    • Each match is a best of 3 games.
    • The tournament will be played out all in one night.

SPORTSMANSHIP

The idea of LXC is to have fun. We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.

Abuse of staff will not be tolerated.

LXC reserves the right to remove a player from a game or a league if they are considered to be bringing down the quality of the league. LXC will not tolerate fighting! Fighting will be an automatic ejection from any game and in most cases ejection from the league for the remainder of the season.

If you feel that someone on your team or on another team is not practicing good sportsmanship, please let us know.
